United Nations Security Council

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) stands as the UN’s most powerful organ, tasked with maintaining international peace and security. Unlike the UN General Assemblies, the Council consists of fifteen member states, five of which hold permanent status, including China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and ten rotating members elected for two-year terms. Its decisions carry legal weight, making it the only UN body whose resolutions are binding under international law and the sole committee with the ability to deploy peacekeepers. Delegates in this committee will be expected to craft innovative yet pragmatic solutions, draft operative clauses under pressure, and partake in continuous negotiation to maintain peace and security. Whether through peaceful resolutions or decisive interventions, the UNSC challenges delegates to embody the balance between power and principle that defines international diplomacy. This committee is specifically designed for experienced delegates and position papers are mandatory to be considered for awards.
